One of the changes that the OTO Foundation has made to the traditional OTO structure is to abolish the local bodies that previously fell under the classifications of Camps and Oases. Since the principle objective of such bodies was to fulfil the requirements necessary to achieve full Lodge status, OTOF automatically charters local bodies at Lodge level and charges them to fulfil the requirements of this status to the best of their ability. This greatly streamlines the administrative procedures necessary to run the Order, and means that a greater amount of time and resources can be devoted to fulfilling the Order's primary objectives.
The most important activities of a Lodge are twofold. Firstly, the Lodge will perform all initiations up to the end of the first cycle. Secondly, it provides a forum for the fraternal exchange of ideas and opinions regarding the nature of The Law of Thelema and its practical and magickal applications.
In addition to this, the Lodge is the vehicle by which events for the education and entertainment of the local members are arranged. Examples of activities that Lodges regularly engage in are the organisation of talks and lectures for members, the construction and performance of magickal rituals, visits to exhibitions or other cultural events of interest, participation in voluntary work of a political or environmental nature, and purely social events such as regular dinner outings. The full range of activities a Lodge may be able to offer is dependent upon the particular interests of its members.
At a national level the British Kingdom of the OTO Foundation has several members who are regular speakers at occult/Pagan events or contribute articles to special interest publications. The Order itself has also been responsible for staging conferences that cater to the interests of the occult/Pagan community. Every year the leadership of the Kingdom organises a residential retreat that draws on the various skills and interests of the members to provide a variety of activities and several ritual performances.
